Taunton


Taunton is on the bank at Bates Boatyard and visible from the tow path. It has new bottom boards as of approx. 15 years ago, chine was replaced then and half of the 2nd strake. The stem and stern would need extensive work as well as a section two planks deep that was been cut 3' wide mid ship involving the top plank, gunnel, lining plank and 5th strake in this area. Taunton is on the National Historic Ships register and is an unconverted butty with many original features.


Wooden butty built in 1937 by Walker, W H & Brothers, registered at Rickmansworth.


Beam: 6.90 feet (2.10 metres)

Length:72.00 feet (21.96 metres)

One of the last (or the last) Sephton boats Coventry left. In 1928 it was built as a horse boat for Samuel Barlow Coal Company. Grantham as master.
